Read Acts 1:1-11. The Son ascended – and returning.
V 11. “Men of Galilee,” they said, “why are you standing here staring into heaven? Jesus has been taken from you into heaven, but someday he will return from heaven in the same way you saw him go!”
One of the obvious and frequently asked questions about Jesus is ‘If he was raised from the dead – where is he now?’
Jesus is the man of Heaven. The Trinity, the Three-in-One God of Heaven, has taken in the God-become-man, Jesus. That is where Jesus is right now. The disciples saw him go, and the message from angels was clear – he is coming back one day. This is how Jesus expressed it ‘Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me. There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am.’ (John 14)
Humanity is invited into God’s heaven to share the Son’s place.
God’s relational desire and purpose will be finally fulfilled.
Mission accomplished.
Meanwhile, we wait. Not standing idle waiting for something unusual to happen, but ready to participate in God’s missional purpose.
And the mystery only deepens!
God has handed over the work of mission to his body, the Church.
God’s Grand Design for a ‘Missional, Relational, Incarnational.’ Church, built on the same pattern of life as exists within the Trinity, will be working out the plan of God on this speck-of-dust planet until the Master Planner returns.
And even now our hearts cry out in worship and expectation –
Even so come, Lord Jesus. AMEN
