Read Psalm 134

A song for pilgrims ascending to Jerusalem

Oh, praise the Lord, all you servants of the Lord,
you who serve at night in the house of the Lord.
Lift your hands toward the sanctuary,
    and praise the Lord.

May the Lord, who made heaven and earth,
    bless you from Jerusalem.

V 1  Oh, praise the Lord, all you servants of the Lord,
you who serve at night in the house of the Lord.
I was reading a magazine recently and here was its suggestion for a better night’s sleep; ‘Have a complete electronic sundown for one hour before bed – no TV and no surfing, emails or texts.’  If that is the negative side, there must be a positive side too. Might it be more than just reading a good book? Indeed, some of those can’t-put-it-down books might serve to keep us wide awake too. Could you make that final hour of the day the time when you  ‘Lift your hands toward the sanctuary, and praise the Lord.’ ?  We often think about starting the day with God, how about spending more time finishing it with him too?
