v 4. We have a priceless inheritance—an inheritance that is kept in heaven for you, pure and undefiled, beyond the reach of change and decay.
Everything seems to have a ‘Sell by …’ date, or a ‘Best before …’ warning. That is because food goes off after a time, it is subject to decay. Generally speaking, of course, the same does not apply to clothing – it is just that fashions change and last year’s fancy costume is now out of date. My car wears out, my computer slows down, and yes – wait for it – so does my brain and body.
Swift to its close ebbs out life’s little day; |
|
Earth’s joys grow dim, its glories pass away; |
|
Change and decay in all around I see: |
|
O thou who changest not, abide with me! |
(and even this old hymn has had to make way for new tunes and words!).
Is there anything beyond the touch of change and decay? Even gold dissolves ever so slowly in water.
Jesus talked about storing up treasure in heaven where there is no such thing as rust or decay, Hard to imagine? Of course it is – but that is where your inheritance lies; your destiny with God, seeing the glory of Jesus, is more enduring than anything we could ever imagine! Your inheritance, your secure and everlasting destiny, the treasure you one day will enjoy to the full, priceless and satisfying, is to be with and see the glory of Jesus.
