Read Ephesians 1:3-10

v 4. Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes.

So the story of God’s love for me gets even more amazing. It does not go back to my conception; His plan goes back to before even the world was formed in the chaos of the cosmos. Here are the bare bones of His plan: I am going to love you, unite you with myself in Christ, and make you holy and faultless. God knew beforehand all about the coming of sin into world, all the devastation that would wreak on the creatures He had made, and yet ….  Yes, love would be the shining beacon that proclaims even today that God has chosen His people to be without fault in his eyes.

I know only too well that nobody could say of me at the moment, ‘Hey, here is a guy who is without fault’. Even your most ardent admirer – if truthful – would sniff a little and say ‘Well, he’s not perfect is he!’

But here is God’s verdict, based on my faith-union with Christ, ‘I love him, I chose him, he is holy and without fault.’ This is not a question of wistful hoping or rose-tinted spectacles; this is God’s verdict because He loves you and sent Jesus to deal with your sin at the cross.

Your sin, and mine, was dealt with once for all as Jesus died at Calvary. God no longer holds it against us, it’s gone, forgiven, forgotten, and in His eyes we are already holy and without fault.
