Read 2 Peter 3:1-18

v 13  But we are looking forward to the new heavens and new earth he has promised, a world filled with God’s righteousness.

This powerful culture that promotes ‘sex and material stuff’ has nothing to compare with God’s plans for His people. Created things are going to be changed – the old will pass away and God will make all things new. And it will be a new creation filled and ordered by God’s righteousness.

There are loads of things I really like about this present creation, ranging from snow-clad mountain peaks to lazy, peaceful streams in the fields around us; and from stunning works of art to a Thai lunch. There are also things I do not like one little bit, like rubbish in the streets, domestic violence and adverts full of sexual images.

These are all things on which I can focus in the here and now; but God wants me to shift my focus to Himself and eternity. God wants me to look up and beyond the humdrum of life in Sussex to catch a glimpse of eternal realities. It is this forward-looking attitude to life and eternity, empowered by the Holy Spirit, that will set us free from slavery to our present culture.

Pray today for renewed minds, transformed minds, ‘Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. ‘ (Romans 12:2)
