v 11. God spoke to Ananias in a vision, saying ‘Go over to Straight Street, to the house of Judas. When you get there, ask for a man from Tarsus named Saul. He is praying to me right now.’
Doing the unthinkable in telling the Good News.
What….!!! Go and try to speak with a man with a reputation for putting Christians in prison? Talk about asking someone to do the unthinkable. Ananias did exactly what some Old Testament prophets tried to do – he tried to object, ‘Don’t you know what kind of man Saul is,’ but God would have none of it. Ananias just had to go as God had asked him.
Yesterday we encountered Philip, the listener who went off to the desert to meet one man; and today it is Ananias, another man who listened to God.
Both of them were called to do the unexpected – and both obeyed.
How might God be calling you to an unexpected, even unthinkable, action in order to spread the good news of Jesus? God’s work of announcing Good News goes on even today. Have you a part in it?
