This week I’ve enjoyed some welcome respite from anticipating and thinking about what is to come, and focusing on celebrating what is. Our family have celebrated three birthdays and a wedding anniversary in 5 days!
Lock-down style celebrations may not be what you had originally planned, but it doesn’t detract from the purpose of the celebration – the person whose birthday it is! A chance to reminisce – (this year we even got the baby and wedding photos out!) and be reminded of good times in the past, to celebrate things that have been achieved, to make someone feel extra special for a day.
It has made me ponder… why do we wait and only do this once a year?! Why do we not appreciate and our friends and family members at other times and make sure we tell them?
It’s been especially easy in recent months to get bogged down with the difficult stuff, the worrying things, the feelings of being displaced. But also an opportunity to enjoy the simple things and notice and appreciate the blessings that surround us every day.
Good relationships don’t just happen- be they with friends of family members. They need nurturing, they need time, we need to notice and appreciate the people that are around us and make sure we tell them how valuable they are to us.
Who could you message, send a note to, gift some flowers or a chocolate bar to make sure they know how much you mean to them today?
One my favourite songs for this lock-down has to be the UK Blessing – be blessed this week as you take a moment to notice and enjoy the people God has place around you.
