v 1. Dear brothers and sisters, the longing of my heart and my prayer to God is for the people of Israel to be saved.
Part of our hunger and thirst for God includes wanting others to experience what we find in following Him. Paul had this deep-rooted desire that his own people, the Jews, should turn to God and find salvation. He was therefore willing to do all he could to spread the Gospel of Jesus. He was willing to travel the length of the Mediterranean, visit the islands and inland towns, risk shipwrecks, beatings, imprisonment, and rejection by his own people because of his longing for them to hear and respond to the good news. His desire to see them saved ran so deep that he wrote ‘My heart is filled with bitter sorrow and unending grief for my people, my Jewish brothers and sisters. I would be willing to be forever cursed—cut off from Christ!—if that would save them ‘ His longing to see them follow Jesus was so deep that he would even give his life for them!
Most of us have relatives and close friends who have not yet experienced the satisfaction of knowing Jesus as the Friend who satisfies our deepest needs. Pray for them; live out a life that says more than words to them; and go on to tell them in a direct and simple way about the satisfaction that Jesus brings into your life.
