vv 28-29 When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching, for he taught with real authority—quite unlike their teachers of religious law.
Even the general population recognised that Jesus’ teaching was more authoritative than that of the regular Jewish teachers. Clearly he was different in both what He said, and in the gracious way in which He spoke. The straightforward and down-to-earth nature of Jesus’ teaching touched people then as it does now. Although we often find Jesus using parables, some of which need a bit of thinking about, His direct and appropriate language enabled ordinary people to follow what He was saying.
