v 23.  When Jesus returned to the Temple and began teaching, the leading priests and elders came up to him. They demanded, “By what authority are you doing all these things? Who gave you the right?”

Do you sense the rising anger of the Jewish leaders in this chapter? Confrontation between them and Jesus is coming to a head. Through  driving out the money-changers from the Temple (v 12), riling the Jewish leaders by His response to a question (vv 24-27) and finally putting Tax-Collectors and prostitutes ahead of them in the line for Heaven (v 31), you feel the tension and bitterness of the leaders rising fast
