Read Matthew 22

v 15.   Then the Pharisees met together to plot how to trap Jesus into saying something for which he could be arrested.

v 23  Jesus was approached by some Sadducees They posed this question:

v 34.  the Pharisees met together to question him again. One of them, an expert in religious law, tried to trap him with this question:

Questions, questions, questions …. All designed to trap or embarrass Jesus. Anything to catch Him out and perhaps get Him arrested. Their evil intentions are only too obvious and Matthew sees the pressure being piled on Jesus. Finally, Jesus gets to ask a question (v 42) and the questioners melt away, unable to give Him an acceptable answer. (v 46)

That was the end of their attempts to trap Him in public.
