vv 8-9. I heard what he said, but I did not understand what he meant. So I asked, “How will all this finally end, my lord?” But he said, “Go now, Daniel, for what I have said is kept secret and sealed until the time of the end.
Even Daniel, with all his God-given wisdom, finally hits a brick wall. The mystery of what we call ‘The End Times’ remains just that, for Daniel and for us too. Throughout the whole Christian era people have come up with grandiose explanations and predictions about what will happen at ‘The End’. Some believers have been misled; they have given up work, given away their possessions, waited on mountain tops, or walked the streets with placards proclaiming ‘The End is Nigh!’ The reality is that it will always be a mystery. Jesus said, ‘no one knows the day or hour when these things will happen, not even the angels in heaven or the Son himself. Only the Father knows. ‘ (Matthew 24:36)
I believe there was a beginning to time – the Universe itself came into being at God’s command and at that moment time began. Similarly, there will be an end to time when everything will be caught up into God’s eternity.
The timing of that remains a mystery – the certainty of it is in no doubt!
