v 50. Then Jesus told him, “Go back home. Your son will live!” And the man believed what Jesus said and started home.
Here was a man supremely confident that Jesus would be true to His word – this government official set out on the journey back home believing that his son would be healed. Since John mentions the first miracle at nearby Cana, I wonder if this man had been a guest at the wedding when it happened, or if it had simply been talked about in the locality. Whatever the reason, the man believed Jesus’ words – and rightly so. This is faith-belief in action.
I wonder if I would have been so confident myself? What about you?
Time to take stock perhaps and ask ourselves some personal questions.
What do you believe about the love of God? Has life perhaps dealt you some difficulties, and it is hard to imagine that a God Who loves really does care about you? It is not a theoretical question because if affects our thinking, praying and reaction to other people. If our confidence in God’s love is waning, then it is time to join in with the fellowship of other believers and rebuild together our hope in God.
What do you sense about your life in the Community? The period of lockdown left many of us feeling isolated and vulnerable. I believe God’s purpose for us is to enjoy life in community. We are not meant to be isolated individuals, and God wants us to be His representatives in our community.
Are you missing out on Love? I’m not really quite sure how to express this, but it might take a major effort on the part of us all to get to the state where love can be freely shared among us. Loneliness is but one symptom of love going a-missing. Don’t be content to moan about it – please let love be refreshed, by something about it.
