Read Jeremiah 20:7-18

V 18      Why was I ever born?

My entire life has been filled with trouble, sorrow, and shame.

This passage in my Bible is headed ‘Jeremiah’s Complaint’. It is an outpouring of honest feelings about how God was leading him through life. Now, just maybe, you have had feelings like that. You were going through the mill and questioning where God was in it all. Phrases like ‘It’s not fair’, ‘Why me?’ ‘Why is God letting this happen?’ come to mind. ‘Where is God’s peace?’ you ask. Jeremiah could understand why God would let things happen to bad people; but in his mind was the age-old question, ‘Why does God allow bad things to happen to good people?’ If that is you, you are not the first person to rail against God. Saints and martyrs down the ages have struggled with that – and God hasn’t rejected them. They have been people of genuine integrity, expressing their real feelings to God.
