Read 2 Kings 17:19-23

v 23.    So the people of Israel were taken from their homeland into exile in Assyria, and they are still there.

This section of the story simply records in stark, simple, detail the collapse of the northern kingdom of Israel. It also gives clues however as to when this section of the Bible was actually written. It also gives a clue as to what was happening to the people remaining in Judah. ‘Only the tribe of Judah remained in the land. But even the people of Judah refused to obey the commands of the Lord their God, for they followed the evil practices that Israel had introduced.  ‘ (vv 18-19)

Tomorrow we move forward in history about 70 years and begin the next part of the drama of the Exile and how it worked out in Judah.
