Read Ezekiel 34:1-16

The Good Shepherd.

vv 11-12.  For this is what the Sovereign Lord says: I myself will search and find my sheep.  I will be like a shepherd looking for his scattered flock. I will find my sheep and rescue them from all the places where they were scattered on that dark and cloudy day.

With his voice restored Ezekiel can now announce a coming new age. God will rescue his scattered people. In our minds we can carry the story forward some 600 years to the coming of The Good Shepherd who announces Himself in John 10:11 ‘I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd sacrifices his life for the sheep.

In Bible history, we find the people rebuilding Jerusalem under the leadership of Ezra and Nehemiah, but the prophecies find their fulfilment in the coming of Jesus, the real Shepherd-King.
