v 26 The gods of other nations are mere idols, but the Lord made the heavens!
What a simple contrast – people make idols, but the Lord God made us and every created thing! One theme that should pop up in our praise very often concerns God as Creator. What songs come to your mind when you set out to praise Him as Creator? It has been said that Christian people learn and remember more about God from the hymns they sing than from any number of books and sermons. (That’s a pretty sobering thought for preachers isn’t it!) A Church of England Bishop said that he would rather write a memorable and meaningful hymn than a serious theological textbook.
What is there in creation that stimulates you and makes you clap your hands and praise God? For one person it is the quiet beauty of a sunrise and for another the awesome magnificence of the North Face of the Eiger. A child may well thank God for the Robin on the birdfeeder, and an older person will delight in the comforting presence of a pet.
So here is your chance to be creative and enable others to offer praise to God in a song. Don’t worry about a tune, unless that is your particular gift, just focus on the words of a praise song that speaks of God as Creator. Whether it be a few lines or several verses, simply express your praise to our Creator-God. Share it with others in a Growth Group or in a reply to me for publication anonymously in the notes.
But whatever else you do today, clap your hands and say ‘Thank You’ to God for the wonder of all that He has made.
