v 13 And then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea. They sang:
“Blessing and honour and glory and power
belong to the one sitting on the throne and to the Lamb forever and ever.”
Even the courts of Heaven resound with praise! (And can you hear echoes of Handel’s ‘Messiah’ as you read these verses?) Perhaps you have been thrilled as you have listened to 1000 voices singing this part of The Messiah; then the Heavenly Choir made up of every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea will be unimaginably glorious! My mind doesn’t stretch that far, all I know is that even I – with a reconditioned voice – will be able to join in.
The kind of worship and praise we offer in Church can only be a pale reflection of what Heaven is like, but there are even occasions when earthly worship carries us along and we sense the presence of the God of Heaven among us. How much more glorious will be the praise of Heaven when we stand in the presence of the eternal God and worship Him with a countless multitude.
And right in the centre will be The Lamb – the crucified and risen Jesus – who gave His life to redeem us. It is He who ‘Opened the Kingdom of Heaven to all believers’ as an ancient creed expresses it. We will be there because He is there and it is His divine purpose that we should be where He is.
