v 1 As Jesus was leaving the Temple that day, one of his disciples said, “Teacher, look at these magnificent buildings! Look at the impressive stones in the walls.”
You can almost hear the childish delight of the disciples as they point out the splendours of the Temple construction. ‘WOW – just look at those HUGE stones!’ Who cut them in the quarry? Who transported them to the site in the first place? Who managed to build them one on top of the other? I find myself admiring even today the scale of the architect’s vision and the ingenuity of the construction engineers in putting it all together. The massive towers in Dubai were child’s play compared with The Pyramids, or the Temple in Jerusalem. The vast hand-chiselled stones have a timeless beauty about them that can still take away our breath after over 2000 years.

And what about bridges too? And steam engines? And aeroplanes?
So many things are put together with nothing but usefulness in mind – they are designed to fulfil a purpose and nothing more. So keep your eyes open for beauty in the world around you and don’t limit yourself to paintings or sculptures. Beauty is so much bigger than that. Allow yourself to be moved by the God-given skills of other artists and artisans.
