Read Daniel 11
v 32 He will flatter and win over those who have violated the covenant. But the people who know their God will be strong and will resist him.
This seems to be a reference to Antiochus IV whom we will meet again next week in Daniel chapter 12. He was a man with visions of grandeur, and believed he was an earthly incarnation of Zeus. It took a great deal of courage to resist him, but significantly a number of Jews did so when he desecrated the Temple. To resist the civil authorities has always been difficult, and many have died as martyrs, remaining faithful to God.
