vv 3-4 They will follow their own desires and will look for teachers who will tell them whatever their itching ears want to hear. They will reject the truth and chase after myths.
Here we go again – there is plenty of fake good news. So many people only listen to and accept what they want to hear; witness some well-meaning folk talking about CoVid19 from what they have gleaned from the Internet. It’s just the same about Christian Faith; there is plenty of misinformation about.
There are times when advertised Christianity offers good friendships, self-fulfilment, good health and even human prosperity. ‘Just believe, and all this will be yours!’ It is more than significant that Jesus’ invitation begins with ‘Repent and believe.’ There is no easy-believism there; repentance is a determined desire to turn away from what is wrong in one’s life, and then follow in the footstep of Jesus. Impossible without the power of the Holy Spirit – I know – but the desire to do just that is matched by the Holy Spirit’s
powerful intervention on my behalf.
As you pray for your friends or family to turn around and follow Jesus, ask that they will encounter positive and helpful guides. That they will listen to a faithful explanation of the truth in Jesus and that you will be able to add your voice to the reasons for following Jesus.
