v 2 For I decided that while I was with you I would forget everything except Jesus Christ, the one who was crucified.
Paul defines the message of Christianity, the essential core of the Faith, as being about Jesus. Christianity is not about buildings and rituals.Nor is about organisations and a hierarchy of priests. Fundamental to the understanding of our Faith lies a person, Jesus. Moreover, not some wholly mystical, divine being nor an earthly ruler or brilliant philosopher, but the one who was crucified. This was an intellectual stumbling block to the great minds of the day. How could the God we worship be also the man who was crucified? But Christian Faith stripped of a crucified Saviour has no meaning. That was understood from the beginning when the Cross was adopted as the definitive symbol of Christianity.
This reminds us that we are not followers of a particular set of morals, nor of some philosophical musings, but of a real man who fully shared our humanity, and ultimately our dying. He was the humble man who could say ‘Follow Me’ without it seeming to be arrogant. He was the perfect man who claimed total unity with the Heavenly Father with his teaching and actions in perfect harmony.
