Read Isaiah 7:1-9

v 2.  The news had come to the royal court of Judah: “Syria is allied with Israel against us!” So the hearts of the king and his people trembled with fear, like trees shaking in a storm.

The antagonism between Israel and Judah had become so strong that Israel formed an unholy alliance with Syria against Judah, making plans for war.

What a sad state of affairs when people who should have stood together make plans that reflect enmity. After all, Israel and Judah were all Hebrew people, they had a common history, they looked back to Abraham and Moses and had entered the same promised land. It brings to my mind some of the sadness and antipathy that has existed over the years between Christians in different denominations, and the need for reconciliation.
