Morning:        Psalms 44, 45 and 46

Evening:         Psalms 47, 48 and 49

Psalm 44:9      But now you have tossed us aside in dishonour.
You no longer lead our armies to battle.

A totally different turning point in this Psalm!  You may be quite familiar with it however – you start by looking back and remembering the ‘Glory Days’. The past was really great, you recall, but now, Oh dear, we are in the dumps. Just remember how good things were then!  (v 2)

You drove out the pagan nations by your power

and gave all the land to our ancestors.
You crushed their enemies and set our ancestors free.

But things are so different ‘now you have tossed us aside in dishonour.’

The psalmist had a terrible feeling that God had rejected him and the nation, and the steeply downward path was to be a continuing trend.

Like a drowning man, he can only shout for help.

Rise up! Help us! Ransom us because of your unfailing love.

You believe that God’s love will never fail, but what is the good of believing if all the visible evidence points the other way? Faith is trusting when the evidence just isn’t there! That is why you can shout at God in desperation

Rise up! Help us! Ransom us because of your unfailing love.

Thank you Lord!
