v 7 Listen! I myself will move against him and the king will receive a message that he is needed at home. So he will return to his land, where I will have him killed with a sword.’”
Isaiah’s reply to King Hezekiah is both definite and reassuring. For all the bullying we read about yesterday Isaiah has a simple, direct answer, ‘Don’t worry’ (v 6 records it) ‘Do not be disturbed by this blasphemous speech against me from the Assyrian king’s messengers.’ It’s all very well and good saying that Isaiah, but take a look at the Assyrian letter, (found in vv 10-13.) Who in the ancient world of that time would not have worried! The King’s response is great – he has opened his spiritual eyes, and so ‘After Hezekiah received the letter from the messengers and read it, he went up to the Lord’s Temple and spread it out before the Lord.’
Well done Hezekiah – he took the whole matter to God.
What better response is there when we face difficult issues in life!
