v 27 In the thirty-seventh year of the exile of King Jehoiachin of Judah, Evil-merodach ascended to the Babylonian throne. He was kind toJehoiachin and released him from prison on April 2 of that year.

At last, some light at the end of the tunnel! King Jehoiachin of Judah had spent a long time in exile before having some privileges as King restored to him. Evil-merodach and Nebuzaradan, come across as humane and kindly people. My view of the great Empire leaders in Assyria and Babylon was of powerful, remote and aggressive soldiers. Yet we find them here to be considerate and thoughtful of the needs of those over whom they rule. Pray for the same spirit of care in our national leaders of today!
