vv 20-21 Then Daniel praised the God of heaven. He said, “Praise the name of God forever and ever, for he has all wisdom and power. He controls the course of world events; he removes kings and sets up other kings. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the scholars.
On Monday we read about Jeremiah’s instruction to all Jews to pray and work for the welfare of the land in which they were exiled. One such person was Daniel who fits into the story of the exile at this point. He became a leading Civil Servant in Babylon, and was in a position to advise King Nebuchadnezzar. Although a Jew, he was prominent in the affairs of state and survived several attempts to get rid of him. (Remember the story of Daniel in the Lion’s den? – that was part of his exile experience!)
The first part of the Book of Daniel ends like this (Daniel 6:28): So Daniel prospered during the reign of Darius and the reign of Cyrus the Persian.
